On a night when hard-hit balls were finding defenders, and vice versa, it took a floater to deny San Francisco Giants right-hander Jake Peavy a piece of history. Peavy took a no-hitter into the eighth inning and then combined with three relievers on a four-hitter in a 3-1 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday night. The win was the fifth straight for the Giants (73-62), who clinched a series win against a team with a winning record for the first time since taking three of four from the St. Louis Cardinals from May 29 to June 1. It also allowed them to gain a game on the National League West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers (76-60) for the second night in row.
