Former outfielder Dave Roberts was confirmed as the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday, becoming the first ethnic minority boss of the iconic franchise, the Major League Baseball outfit said. Roberts, 43, the son of an African-American former Marine and Japanese-American mother, will be formally introduced at an unveiling on December 1, the Dodgers said. The new team manager replaces Don Mattingly, who left the club by mutual agreement at the end of the close season after the Dodgers once again failed to reach the World Series.
