Mitch Hammontree stood back and gazed at the flowers, candles and handwritten messages laid out beneath a sign welcoming fans to Dodger Stadium at the main entrance on Vin Scully Avenue. The city of Los Angeles was mourning Wednesday for the Bronx-born Scully, whose 67-year career calling games in Brooklyn and Los Angeles made him the longest-tenured broadcaster with a single team in sports history. With the Dodgers out of town until Friday, fans of all ages gathered outside the stadium and at other spots to honor Scully.
