MLB salaries are in the stratosphere but the owners who pay them are not stupid. For the Los Angeles Dodgers, paying a player like Matt Kemp $160 million over eight years may seem high, but it's an investment. The Dodgers' ownership feels Kemp will generate more than $160 million by his playing and his ability to put "butts in seats" as they say. Same thing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's huge 10-year, $254 million deal with Albert Pujols. Although it took him a while, he's starting to hit homers, which will bring more fans to the stadium.
