Southpaw reliever J.P. Howell entered a game Sept. 19 at Chicago with an ERA of 1.19. He gave up two earned runs in an inning in the Dodgers' 14-5 victory. The next day at Chicago, he came in when the Dodgers held a 7-2 lead entering the bottom the seventh inning. He allowed four earned runs in two-thirds of an inning and the Dodgers eventually lost 8-7.
