ST. LOUIS — With the Los Angeles Dodgers' season on the verge of ending, manager Don Mattingly decided against writing Yasiel Puig's name in the lineup for Game 4 of the National League Division Series. Instead of Puig, the Dodgers will go with Andre Ethier in center field, and Carl Crawford has been bumped up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order. Puig ended a run of seven straight strikeouts by hitting a triple Monday night in Game 3. Overall, Puig has struck out eight times in his previous nine plate appearances. "This lineup gives us the best chance to win," said Mattingly, whose team trails the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 in the best-of-five set. To that point, left-hander Clayton Kershaw starts Game 4 on short rest Tuesday afternoon. Puig seemed charismatic, rather than upset, that Mattingly did not tell him ahead of time that he wasn't starting. "No, he did not," Puig said. "I got here, the lineup was posted and I wasn't in it. "I don't need the manager to talk to me. ... What can I do?" Mattingly said Puig is healthy and available to play as a reserve should the a need arise.
