ST. LOUIS — Shelby Miller no doubt enjoyed the success the St. Louis Cardinals had a year ago when they reached the World Series. But getting left out of the starting rotation in the postseason left a bad taste. That's why getting a chance Tuesday night in Game 4 of the National League Division Series meant so much to Miller, who pitched effectively over 5 2/3 innings in a 3-2 clinching victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He matched Clayton Kershaw zero-for-zero in the score column until the Dodgers broke through with two runs in the sixth. Miller's line, including five hits and three walks allowed, didn't look all that great. It wasn't a quality start, by the boundaries of the official stat, but it was quality in other meaningful ways. "For a first postseason start, for how anxious I was to get out there, to do all that, it was really exciting," Miller said. "For us to get the win, at home, that's what I play for — to help the team win. It was pretty special, though. Everything I thought it would be."
