The Dodgers' 3-2 loss to the New York Mets in the decisive fifth game of the National League Division Series on Thursday marked the second season in a row they have exited the playoffs at the first hurdle. For diehard Dodgers fans, that is barely worth celebrating given that their team's record payroll increased to more than $300 million for this season, consequently driving their lofty expectations for the 'The Boys in Blue' even higher.
